The Heart Really Matters

We all know that we can't live without a heart, right? We can live without a liver, a kidney or even without our limbs. But in order to live a good life, we need a healthy heart. So, that tells us that the "heart really matters". It gives us the ability to have life in the physical. Did you know the word "heart" is mentioned over 800 times in the Bible? Whereas the brain is not mentioned at all. Think about that for a moment. The condition of our heart is also extremely important when it comes to our salvation and our relationship with the Lord.

A quote from A.W. Pink says “An honest heart seeks to please God in all things and offend Him in none.” Because our heart has the ability to reason, question, meditate, motivate, and think; it can lead us down the wrong path. In Proverbs 3:5-6, we are told to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." The heart is the gate to our soul. Jesus encourages to love God with all of our heart, soul and mind. If we have a troubled heart, it will be hard for us to accomplish this. We have to strive to guard our heartgate because the heart matters and it matters to God.

Matthew 22:37 NLT Jesus replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind"

Prayer: Father God, we understand that we can't spiritually live with a troubled heart. We come to You asking that You forgive us of anything we are holding in our hearts that does not please You. Today, we choose to let go of envy, jealousy, hatred, unrighteousness and unforgiveness. You tell us in Your word that we should trust You with all of our heart and today we choose to do so. We choose to seek You in all that we do and not lean on our own understanding. Show us how to love You with all of heart, soul and mind. Help us to realize just how much the heart matters to You. We give all glory, honor and praise to You. We pray this prayer in Jesus' name. Amen.
