Independent vs Dependent

As a teenager, I remember thinking and saying I can't wait to be on my own; to claim my independence. I am pretty sure many of you have said and felt the same. We couldn't wait to get from under the roof of our parents, whether it was going off to college, military or not. The anticipation of living on our own and not having to answer to anyone is exciting, right? You get to stay out as long as you want, doing whatever it is you want to do and not have to worry about going home to a thousand and one questions. Go ahead and laugh! I am doing that as I write because as an adult I have come to realize, my life is not my own.

Now, if we are to live according to the word of God, then this independent attitude has to change. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." You see, we are to depend on the guidance of the Lord and not be guided by what we have come to know. Our understanding of how to live life is tainted by the ways of the world. All we hear is do it your way! Well, how about we do it God's way instead! Stop trying to be independent and be dependent on God. Let's put all of our trust in God to lead us.

Be blessed and be a blessing!!
